Gabriola Island: election results and bylaw check

Elected by acclamation. New community plan at first reading. Checked October 21, 2026.

The Gabriola Firestarter · Governance · 2026-10-21 · updated 2026-10-22 · Gabriola Island

Trustee election

Elected by acclamation. Bob Andrew and Tobi Elliott were declared elected by acclamation. No ballot was held. Jacquie Hill declared Bob Andrew and Tobi Elliott elected by acclamation. The Islands Trust nomination list says Robert Andrew. No ballot was held.[1][2]

New community plan at first reading

The September 3 draft minutes record first reading of OCP Bylaw 325, as amended, and referral to First Nations and agencies (GB-2026-067/068). They also defer consideration of second reading of Bylaws 316 and 317 until September 30, 2027 (GB-2026-064). First reading does not replace the current community plan.[3]

Other local votes

The RDN’s signed acclamation notice also declares Vanessa Craig elected as Electoral Area B director. That regional-district office is separate from the two Gabriola Trust seats.[4]

The new term

The Trust says trustees will be sworn into office on November 12, followed by Council meetings on November 13 and 14. Current officeholders remain in office until the new term. The Council meeting will include elections for the Executive Committee and Conservancy Board positions.[5]

This is a dated public-record check, covering the local trust area and its associated islands. A preliminary count is not an official declaration; readings, approval and adoption are separate steps. Candidate vote totals are not a count of voters. Regional-district and school electoral boundaries differ from Trust-area boundaries; other offices are identified separately. This check is not a full re-audit of every bylaw.
