The Gabriola Local Trust Committee endorsed a revised approach to community engagement on its Official Community Plan review, focusing on questions about housing options and growth management.[1]
The minutes say the approach will explore policy options intended to balance attainable and affordable housing with protection of land and the natural environment. Possible topics include subdivision potential, shared land ownership, clustered housing, shared water systems and pre-zoning suitable areas for housing models.[1]
Trustees preferred a one-page discussion guide over a webinar or engagement video, and discussed market outreach and trustee-hosted drop-in sessions. The planner was to draft the guide and work with the committee to identify a suitable engagement period before community discussions in September.[1]
