The Gabriola Local Trust Committee has asked its Official Community Plan review to consider the need to regulate the deposit and removal of soil, following discussion of whether the issue could be handled as a separate minor project.[1]

The minutes say trustees discussed a letter raising concerns about soil removal and debris dumping between properties on the island. They noted that staff would need direction on issues to examine, that a minor project might not be possible during the comprehensive OCP review, and that the topic’s fit within the review needed to be assessed.[1]

The motion, GB-2025-009, carried at the February 20 meeting.[1] In the recording, a trustee asked whether a soil deposit and removal bylaw could be a minor project or should be considered as part of the OCP review.[2]

The committee also approved up to $200 from its communications budget to advertise trustee-hosted discussions about the OCP review through the end of fiscal 2024-25.[1]
