The Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee approved a business case for the next phase of its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review, sending it to the Regional Planning Committee and Financial Planning Committee for consideration in the 2025/2026 budget process.[1]
The staff report said the proposed phase would continue engagement with First Nations, complete the Official Community Plan review and begin the Land Use Bylaw review.[1]
The committee also voted to include First Nations engagement for the Ecological Protection Zone project in the OCP and Land Use Bylaw review project.[1] Staff had recommended combining the engagement, while saying that incorporating the entire Ecological Protection Zone project into the major project was not recommended because it would delay completion of the zone project.[1]
The minutes say Snuneymuxw First Nation had indicated a referral response on the Ecological Protection Zone was forthcoming, and that the zone proposal would need to be revisited after comments were received.[1]
